Ulcerative Colitis, and colonic divericulae
A 28-year-old woman presented with bloody diarrhea, abdominal pain, and weight loss and was admitted to the endoscopy unit. The patient underwent a colonoscopy. The scope revealed severe inflammation with debris and necrotic material all over the examined colon. Also, there are multiple diverticulae. Multiple biopsies were taken, and pathology showed a picture of ulcerative colitis.
Questions:
1- what is the stage and score of this patient's disease?
2- if the patient fails first-line therapy, what are other lines of treatment?
3-Does the presence of colonic diverticula have a role in managing this patient?
