#gastriculcer , demonstration of the third and fourth parts of duodenum


A gastric ulcer in a 73-year-old woman presented with hematemesis and melena. The scope also revealed #esophageal varices. The patient has a history of chronic liver disease, diabetes, and hypertension.
Questions:
1- Should the endoscopist take biopsies from the ulcer despite the upper GI bleeding?
2- Should we search for H. pylori infection?
3- Should we follow the patient regarding the ulcer healing despite it looks benign?

If the endoscopist did not take biopsies in the index scope, should he take biopsies during the follow-up endoscopy?
