Ultrasonic endoscopy (USE)
Idea: this device is based on the idea of both
capsule endoscopy and endoscopic ultrasonography.
The capsule is
controlled by an external ultrasonography that detects the movement, the
direction, and therapeutic purposes of the capsule.
Composition: two parts, one is the capsule that is connected
wirelessly or magnetically to the ultrasonography.
The ultrasonography: (1)
that controls the movement and directions, timing,
(2) Therapeutic: taking
a biopsy, removal of early cancers,
applying argon plasma coagulation.
The signals will be received
from the capsule to the ultrasonography and vice versa.
Advantages:
It will avoid the
entrapment of the capsule as in the ordinary capsule endoscopy.
The control of the
movement and direction of the capsule will give a high yield in the diagnosis
of GI diseases.
Also, the time taken by the capsule can be shortened
or lengthened according to needs.
Therapeutic purposes
in the form of treating early cancers, taking biopsies, applying argon plasma
to vascular lesions.
