Ulcerative colitis #

A 43-year-old woman presented with diarrhea with mucus and blood and weight loss. The patient gave a history of vitiligo all over the body. Colonoscopic examination of the patient revealed inflammation and ulceration of the colonic mucosa all over the colon up to the caecum. There is a loss of the normal colonic mucosal appearance. The colon looks rigid with a tube like an appearance and loss of normal colonic motility. Some areas of the colon show multiple colonic polyps that bleed easily during biopsy-taking. When taking biopsies from the colon especially from the caecal area, the mucosa is rigid and gritty, and there is much difficulty in biopsy- taking.
