Technical skills used during the injection of the fundal varices#

A50-year-old woman with a past history of decompensated liver cirrhosis was referred to our hospital for follow up upper GI endoscopy and injection of large fundal varices. The fundal varix was injected with 6 ampoules of amacryl.
Here are some technical skills used during the injection of the fundal varices:
1- We inject about 0.5cm of distilled water into varix before the amacryl(in order to inflate varix and to ensure that the tip of the injector is completely fitted into varix) to avoid leakage of the amacryl outside varix.
2- We inject about 0.5 cm of distilled water into varix after injection of the amacryl to push any residual amount of the amacryl into varix, so avoid leakage of the glue.
3- It is important to check the injector for the length of the needle before injection of the amacryl. In this case, we make a small modification as the part of the needle that protrudes from the sheath was too short, so we cut a small part of the tip of the sheath, so the needle length is long enough for injection of the glue.
