A 70-year-old woman presented with recurrent microcytic hypochromic anemia. The patient gave past history of diabetes mellitus, hypertension and liver cirrhosis due to HCV infection. The patient received oral antiviral treatment in the form of daclatasvir, sofosbuvir, and ribavirin. The HCV RNA is below the detection limits after completion of treatment and at follow-up intervals.
The patient was many times admitted to the hospital for blood transfusion.
Upper GI endoscopy was done and revealed antral varices (IGV-2) and inflamed antral mucosa. Band ligation for antral varices was successfully done.
